Good Times and Bad Situations

Todays double feature begin’s with Rick James’ “Street Songs”. “Ghetto Life” and “Mr Policeman”showcase some of the harsh realities with growing up in Buffalo, NY.  It seems like the only escape lies in sex, drugs, rock n’ roll.  Which happens to bring us to our next album.  After Rick James tells his story, like the last song says he’s ready to “Pass the Joint” and let Wildside take the reigns.

Wildside’s “Under the Influence” plunges into a night of sin with “Hang on Suzy” who’s a very kinky girl but the story is more grim than “Superfreak”. Rick James takes the gentleman’s approach with “Make Love to Me”, while Wildside love is not so tender with “Love Strikes”. However the message is delivered, it seems both artists speak of love and pain conveying the highs and lows of street life in America.  It seems we are left to wonder does the cure or the cause for the insanity of the streets lie in sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll.
